About Us :: President's Message

The Canadian Society for the Study of Higher Education brings together researchers and practitioners from across the various disciplines, institutions and sectors to focus on issues of higher education. Its mission is to facilitate, promote and share research in such areas as teaching and learning, academic and administrative leadership, higher education policy. Through its meetings, publications and related projects, the CSSHE is an important forum and voice for those concerned with trends and issues in post-secondary education in Canada.
As a member of the Canadian Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences, the CSSHE holds an annual conference in the context of the Congress organized by the Federation. In addition, the Society supports its members by publishing the Canadian Journal for Higher Education, The Professional File, and a Directory that lists all of its members. From time to time, the Society collaborates with other higher education organizations on projects of mutual interest, and offers special events to address specific topics on higher education in Canada.
One of the strengths of our Society is the richness of perspective afforded by the diversity of its membership. Our community includes university and college faculty working across wide-ranging disciplines, graduate students, senior administrators, institutional analysts, and others serving in the post-secondary field. Members also include colleagues from the corporate world as well as those from government with a policy interest in higher education. As we share ideas through the networking opportunities that the Society provides, we all gain new and enriched perspectives on higher education issues. This strengthens our ability to become engaged in the discourse and changing context which shapes and is shaped by our field.
I invite you to forward any ideas, suggestions, and comments to me or other members of the Society’s Board. Only with the active participation of our members will we be able to advance the mission of the CSSHE.
